Background:
Situated in leafy suburb of Hawcoat, on edge of Barrow-in Furness, close to Furness Abbey and new hospital; opened in 1971. Modern building contains seven classrooms, large hall and stage. Outdoor facilities include large playground, field and environmental area. High expectations academically; teaching takes place in 'warm and friendly' atmosphere. Children are asked to take home a book to read with their parents every day. Pupils have reputation for achievement in sport; Years 5 and 6 have swimming lessons. In addition to sporting extra-curricular activities, pupils can join chess club, choir or orchestra. Established annual events involving the local community include performances by the choir at the local hospital day-centre and a Christmas production for local senior citizens and playgroups. Numerous charity fundraising appeals take place during the year.
