Background:

Greystoke Primary was founded in 1838 by the Howard family of Greystoke Castle, who still retain an interest. The buildings are predominantly Victorian with the exception of an extension built in 1993, and the school also uses the village hall and playing field. The school promotes links with the community by integrating many local projects into its own and extends classroom learning with day trips and residential visits for older children to an outdoor centre and to York. During breaks, pupils are free to pursue any interest they may have in chess and occasionally participate in football and swimming tournaments after-school. Greystoke School has a very strong family atmosphere that is beneficial to all pupils.
