Background:
The school itself has recently completed a programme of refurbishment and remodelling over the past two years to provide a staff room, office and newly completed library as well as remodelled and enlarged reception and infant class facilities. The school equipment is excellent and now includes recently installed whiteboards for information technology work in all three classrooms. The school not only has strong links with the nursery but also with the wider community and the Church. Language development is of vital importance to the all round development of the child. There are four main areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. These are developed throughout the school in the daily literacy hour. The school follows the guidelines of the national literacy strategy. Information and communication technology is taught within the classroom. Each classroom has computers that are connected to 'whole school' network. The computers have access to the internet and email. The school is building up a library of compact disk read only memory that will support different areas of the curriculum, with ICT resources as a whole being used to complement the teaching of other national curriculum subjects. Design technology gives children a new challenge each term and this is usually linked to the current class project. Children have the opportunity to use a variety of different materials, including paper, card, wood, metal, plastic, clay, construction kits and food. The school's religious education teaching follows a thematic approach using the Bradford Agreed Syllabus. The nature of Christianity and its historical and continuing influence on individuals and cultures is the main focus, but at Key Stage 2, study is extended to Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Judaism. The school aims to create a safe, friendly, caring, stimulating atmosphere where every child has the opportunity to develop their full potential.
