Background:
Hayton CofE Primary School founded in 1818, a few miles southeast of Carlisle. It serves affluent community of small villages. Old listed school building updated but most of school is newly added since 1992. The school has important community links in village that retains village shop, post office, public house and Church. Pre-school group, brownies and cubs celebrate major church festivals with village and attend church regularly for assemblies led by vicar. It provides 25 computers, 15 laptops and interactive whiteboards in every classroom. French is taught throughout the school. It also provides variety of sporting and musical events. The school has won many awards such as DfES Achievement Award (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003) and Sports Activemark Award. Healthy School Award, Bronze Recycling Award. 'The school is a small learning community, caring for one another and reaching out to the global community'.
