Background:

Dowdales School is an 11 to 16 mixed comprehensive which enjoys a magnificent setting on the site of a small but impressive mansion. It is surrounded by woodland and spacious playing fields. In September 2001 Dowdales became a specialist school in the Performing Arts - dance, drama and music. Specialist school status brings many advantages not just in the three specialist areas but across the whole curriculum and for the wider community too. Over recent years the school has benefited from an extensive building programme with new facilities in humanities, mathematics, science and technology. A new Performing Arts suite comprising dance and drama studios, music rooms and music practice rooms has enhanced the excellent facilities already available at the school. The school aims to provide a broad and balanced learning experience which enables all pupils to achieve their full potential. The school'strives to provide a broad, balanced and coherent curriculum which includes all the subjects of the national curriculum; religious education; physical social and health education and other areas of study necessary to prepare all pupils for the adult world and to enable them to make informed choices with regards to themselves and the welfare of others. The school has links with the community are excellent.
