Background:
Pennington of England School is situated at the foot of the Pennington Fells, 7 miles from Barrow-in-Furness and 1 mile from the small market town of Ulverston. It consists of an old board school building in 1875, which contains large classrooms, and a separate light and airy 1970s building. Both buildings have been extended and are brightly decorated. The school has an average of 160 pupils on roll and enjoys a very friendly, caring and intimate atmosphere. Information and communication technology is developed across the curriculum. The school provides up-to-date computers across the curriculum to support pupil's learning. Music is generally taught using the Silver Burdett Scheme, which incorporates the basic elements of music including rhythm, pitch, harmony, expression, style and structure. The school is fortunate to have large playing fields in this rural setting and football, netball, rounders, volleyball and cricket are played. An after school sports club is held twice a week for all children. A variety of sports and activities are played on a half-term basis. "The school aims to raise pupils standards of achievement." .
