Background:

Situated in the centre of the village, approximately five miles north-west from Penrith and 12 miles south from Carlisle. There are three teaching rooms, for Key Stage 1, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6, respectively. The two Key Stage 2 classrooms are separated by a refurbished art and cookery area. In addition, the school has a new re-aligned entrance hall, new office, cloakrooms, toilets, kitchen, stores, a staffroom and a new open-plan teaching area, with patio doors opening onto the front of the school. Planning permission granted for foundation stage play area. Externally, the school has extensive grounds, including a playing field, a hard-surface playground, and a wildlife garden. Skelton nursery is within the school grounds and is run by a separate management committe. The school continually looks at ways of broadening the curriculum, most recently by introducing the teaching of French throughout the school in the summer term. Extra-curricular activities are well supported, including the popular RSPB Wildlife Explorers' Club, inter-school sports competitions and performances by touring theatre groups. Commitment to charity fundraising, most of which is instigated by the school council. DfES achievement award (2003).
