Background:
This small rural school consists of two main teaching areas with an interconnecting information technology suite, a small hall and staff areas. Its large grounds contain a tarmac area, a garden, an athletics track and a field. Despite the school's small size, pupils participate in local sports competitions and junior children receive swimming lessons. Years 2 and 3 learn to play the recorder. Extra-curricular activities include violin lessons, football, skipping, clay and netball. The curriculum is made 'meaningful and memorable' through educational visits. Extra help is available for pupils with learning difficulties or those who are especially able. The school plays a key role in the life of the community, especially in selling newspapers since there are no shops in the village. The 'invaluable' parent-teacher association organises social functions and raises funds. Children are encouraged to support several national and international charities.
