Background:
Founded in 1608, the school's buildings date from 1862 and 1962 and a new extension and hall have just been opened. Outdoor facilities include two playgrounds, an adventure playground and a small sports field. The school is located on the edge of a large village on the southern fringe of the Lake District. All Key Stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to participate in annual residential trips and the children achieve regular sporting success. In 1997, the school became national small schools freestyle and mixed medley champions and were county football competition finalists in 1998 and 2000. There is a special educational needs (SEN) co-ordinator who monitors SEN provision and two welfare assistants support individuals and groups both in classes and withdrawal sessions.
