Background:

Windermere CofE Junior was founded in October 1968, built on the site of the former Windermere Grammar School which closed in 1967. The school is situated between Windermere and Bowness in beautiful surroundings with views of the Lakeland fells. Within its extensive grounds are large grasses and hard play areas, a heated swimming pool with changing facilities which was built by the parents, a full size tennis court and a wildlife area. The support of the parents, governors and community has also allowed a new library to be built, including computer and quiet research facilities. While academic expectations are high in the school, outdoor activities are also seen as important, including residential trips. Children at the school finished third in the north west England regional finals of the Children's Parliament. The school concert is a major production over three evenings which last year sold out its 600 tickets in 36 hours. Links have been established with schools in Germany and universities in the United States of America, while trips have taken children to many European cities. A large range of clubs are available, from gardening and orienteering to art, and the school sports teams have seen success in many fields. Pupils run the school tuck shop which involves ordering goods and banking monies. Children have also raised money for charitable causes and for the school itself. The aim of the school is to succeed in providing a rich and balanced education within a happy, caring and stimulating Christian environment.
