Background:
Founded in 1862, the small, over-subscribed school moved to its current, 'beautiful' site in September 1990 and is 'seen by many as the centre of the local community'. The 'extensive' grounds contain a playing field, wildlife area with pond and a small adventure playground, while indoor facilities include a library and information technology areas. Different teaching styles are used, especially for children with special educational needs. Physical education is 'prominent' in the curriculum and extra-curricular sporting activities include football, longball, rounders and swimming. The school displays several works of art and an artist in residence has worked with the pupils to create a 'nationally acclaimed' mural for the school which depicts life in the village. Children raise money for national and international charities and 'good' links are maintained with parents and the wider community, through an annual Christmas pantomime, for example. The parent-teacher association provides a 'focal point'.
